Five Scenes for Orchestra
Nathan Henninger, Scoring Berlin Orchestra
Canadian composer and conductor Nathan Henninger presents his first orchestral album, Five Scenes for Orchestra. This emotionally rich and deeply personal cinematographic work was recorded with a handpicked ensemble, composed of musicians from Berlin's most prestigious orchestras, including the Berliner Philharmoniker, the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin and the Deutsche Oper. Henninger composed this piece in five movements during a period of deep transition. After leaving his post at the United Nations in New York, he moved to the Azores shortly before the pandemic, looking for silence and reflection in the heart of nature. The tension between the hectic urban life and the contemplative isolation of the Atlantic islands permeates its musical language: sometimes eruptive and fragile, sometimes dense and dreamlike. Produced and recorded at the renowned Teldex Studio Berlin under the direction of the composer himself, Five Scenes for Orchestra offers a wide-scale listening experience.
