Romanza is the second album by composer Nathan Henninger, following the highly acclaimed Five Scenes for Orchestra. He presents a symphonic poem of 19 minutes and 40 seconds for string orchestra, percussion and piano. Conceived as a narrative work in a single movement, Romanza unfolds in a continuous emotional arc, centered on a recurring lyrical theme that symbolizes love - its tenderness, vulnerability and lasting presence. The album includes six tracks: the full interpretation of Romanza, followed by five excerpts from the work - Theme, Playfully, Warmly with Energy, Misterioso and Gently - offering listeners several gateways to the expressive universe of the play. Recorded with the Budapest Scoring Orchestra and with the participation of Moroccan-Hungarian pianist Marouan Benabdallah, Romanza highlights Henninger's gift for sustained melodic writing, luminous orchestration and large-scale narration. The piano acts both as a voice integrated into the orchestra and as a virtuoso and narrative presence, guiding transitions and intensifying key moments. Henninger's previous release, Five Scenes for Orchestra, recorded in Berlin by members of major German orchestras, was broadcast internationally on BBC Radio 3 and WDR, selected among IDAGIO's Editor's Weekly Picks, and cited by critic Ted Gioia among the Top 100 Recordings of 2025. With Romanza, Henninger deepens his exploration of the narrative-driven orchestral form, creating an immersive and emotionally rich listening experience.

Canadian composer and conductor Nathan Henninger presents his first orchestral album, Five Scenes for Orchestra. This emotionally rich and deeply personal cinematographic work was recorded with a handpicked ensemble, composed of musicians from Berlin's most prestigious orchestras, including the Berliner Philharmoniker, the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin and the Deutsche Oper. Henninger composed this piece in five movements during a period of deep transition. After leaving his post at the United Nations in New York, he moved to the Azores shortly before the pandemic, looking for silence and reflection in the heart of nature. The tension between the hectic urban life and the contemplative isolation of the Atlantic islands permeates its musical language: sometimes eruptive and fragile, sometimes dense and dreamlike. Produced and recorded at the renowned Teldex Studio Berlin under the direction of the composer himself, Five Scenes for Orchestra offers a wide-scale listening experience.
